My whole life I’ve been doing what social workers, and really, moms, are trained for – solving problems. Let’s face it, moms get it done.

Dear Neighbors,

I’m a social worker from a family of educators. I’m also a mom, a volunteer soccer coach, coordinator of the special olympics and best buddies, and my neighborhood watch captian. I have worked in public schools, charter schools, domestic violence advocacy, alternative sentencing advocacy, and with veterans.  My whole life I’ve been doing what social workers, and really, moms, are trained for – solving problems. Let’s face it, moms get it done.

I’m running for council to bring that mom energy to the city. We need to clean the house, manage the budget, make sure there’s good activities for kids and families, learn our manners, and care for our community like a team.

All my life I was taught the importance of serving my community. Both of my parents were high school English teachers and my grandfather served in the Army in World War II. After earning my Masters Degree from New Mexico Highlands University, I’ve been working in schools.

My social worker skills, and quite frankly my mom skills, taught me that what’s most important in working with people and solving problems is trust. I will work to earn your trust, because we’ve got a lot of work to do, together.

Let’s take an example. When I started working with the schools, students with disabilities were unable to participate in many activities and sports with their peers in their communities. Imagine how awful that is for children. I got to work and created a Special Olympics unified schools program that brings together students with and without disabilities to play sports on the same team - building trust, relationships, and friendships. My mom senses wouldn’t allow children to be left out and my social worker training taught me to build unified programs that work for the community. It wouldn’t have been possible without trust that we could get it done.

Like you, I’ve got a to-do list a mile long, but I’m ready to get started! I look forward to talking with you and your family as we build our campaign. I hope to earn your trust and your vote!

Let’s get it done!
